Jacqueline Fernandez is a Bollywood actress who hails from the island nation of Sri Lanka. She was born on 2nd June, 1985. She has three siblings, two brothers and an older sister. She is half Malaysian and half Srilankan. In Bahrain where she had most of her schooling, where she was motivated to do well and excelled in events such as Athletics, Drama and many other fields, she especially enjoyed Track and Field.
Having a passion for cultures and languages she also joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic, she also picked up Horse Riding.
According to her: "Being independent and accomplished was imperative to me and I always demanded the best of myself. Perfectionism is my strongest asset."
After her schooling in Bahrain
Having the ambition to do something for her country, she competed in Miss Universe 2006. She has worked as an anchorwoman on one of Sri Lanka's business programs called "Lanka Business Report". She also writes a weekly column for a national newspaper, the "Daily mirror". Jackie also has a non-profit organisation in Sri Lanka focusing on empowering the underprivileged. She has came in a VIP ad with Shahid Kapoor.
The Synergy 1 Delhi Couture Week came to an end recently with designer Gaurav Gupta showcasing his collection. Sitting in the front row, supporting the designer was actress Jacqueline Fernandez.
The beautiful actress was dressed Gaurav Gupta’s creation, a grey net saree with an off shoulder blouse. When asked why she didn’t walk on the ramp wearing the designer’s dress, the actress replied saying Bollywood celebs are better off sitting and watching a show rather than walking on the ramp. According to her, a fashion show is about the clothes and the designer’s talent and the celebrities walking on the ramp grab the limelight from designers. As Bollywood celebs, she feels they should support the designers by letting their garments speak for themselves rather than stealing their thunder.
Gaurav Gupta’s collection was inspired by enchanted forest and the garments consisted of pleats, drapes and ruffles. The silhouettes were mainly Indian, consisting of a blend of gowns, inspired by sarees and ghagras in hues of crème, pink, gold, green, turquoise, yellow and copper. The fabrics used were chiffon, georgette, tuile and net.
Accompanying the Sri Lankan beauty was Shakti Kapoor’s daughter, Shraddha Kapoor. She looked beautiful and elegant in a black and red gown, which too was a Gaurav Kapur creation.
Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress and model who appears in Bollywood films. She is a former beauty queen who won Miss Sri Lanka Universe in 2006.
In March 2006, Fernandez was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006, but was not a finalist.
After competing at Miss Universe, she worked as an anchor on Lanka Business Report and wrote a weekly column for The Daily Mirror while modeling in India. Fernandez also has a non-profit organization in Sri Lanka focusing on empowering the underprivileged.
Fernandez made her acting debut in the 2009 Bollywood fantasy movie Aladin directed by Sujoy Gosh alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Ritesh Deshmukh. She played the character of Jasmine, the new girl in college who has come from America.
2010 saw her once again appearing alongside Ritesh Deshmukh again in the romantic comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. She also had a cameo appearance in Sajid Khan's Housefull, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role while Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Arjun Rampal feature in supporting roles. Now she is acting in a tamil movie called Mankatha. She is doing a special role and she is acting with Ajith kumar,Nagarjuna, Trisha Krishnan, Manoj Manchu, Vedhika Kumar and Lakshmi Rai.Jacqueline is also shooting for Milap Zaveri's (her Director from JKSAH) latest project. After her schooling in Bahrain, she was awarded a Scholarship to study at the University of Sydney, where she pursued a degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. Having a passion for cultures and languages she also joined the Berlitz school of languages, where she learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic.
In 2006, she was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. After winning Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of television and anchored a show on Sri Lanka's business called Lanka Business Report.
She came to Mumbai on a modeling contract and landed a role in Bollywood movie Aladin (2009) directed by Sujoy Ghosh along with well known Indian stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Ritesh Deshmukh. After the success of her first film, she got signed on by Milap Zaveri for his directorial debut movie Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (2010) in which she plays the part of an alien who comes to earth in search of love. Her co-star from her first movie, Ritesh Deshmukh was her leading-man again. The director recommended her to well-known director Farah Khan who guest-starred in this movie. She made a cameo appearance (in a song) in the movie Housefull (2010) which was directed by Farah Khan's younger brother, Sajid Khan.
